Summary: A short story about a group of friends, young adults, who think they are bringing justice to the Internet. Unfortunately their actions drive “bad guys” to commit suicide and the police get involved.
Cheo, Kimberly, Stanley and Rhea, a group of young adults tired of seeing harassment and bullying on the internet, founded M.A.S.K. M.A.S.K. stands for “Milan”/Cheo, “Anja”/Rhea, “Sage”/Stanley and “Kaia”/Kimberly.
The group stops the bullies... by playing their own games and bullying them in turn. They called the “bad guys” pigs, bastards, crazy stalker dudes, assholes who should die, pieces of shit, etc.
The friends’ group thought they were bringing justice to the internet but they’re only adding fuel to the fire, encouraging hatred. When several “bad guys” disappear from the internet, Cheo, Kimberly, Stanley and Rhea celebrate their victories. But these people have committed suicide. When they find out, it's too late for them. The police get involved and hunt them down. They may change their online aliases - Milan, Kaia, Sage and Anja - to something else; the damage has already been done.
The police arrest them, the group quickly goes to trial and they find themselves separated into different prisons. Cheo, Kimberly, Stanley and Rhea wanted to bring justice to the internet and, in doing so, became criminals themselves.
Writing letters to their families, as they are forbidden from using the internet, they say they don’t regret founding M.A.S.K. but that they should have taken a different approach to eliminating the “bad guys.” Karma always punishes those who deserve it.
